Phoenix Keating AW13 Androdameia Coverage

Phoenix Keating’s AW13 campaign has been very well received by the media and fans of the label. Here is some of our favourite write up’s on the campaign.

pagesdigital’s Assistant Editor, Lillian McKnight, posted a great article about Phoenix Keating’s AW13 campaign:

“Drama is sorely lacking in the Australian fashion landscape. The antipodean approach to style is much more relaxed than that of our European friends, due in part to a sultry climate and a relentlessly easygoing attitude. 21 year-old Phoenix Keating’s sophisticated, powerful designs belie both his age and the local tendency towards keeping things low key. His AW2013 collection, Androdameia, is pure female empowerment right down to its titular namesake— Androdameia, otherwise known as the “subduer of men”, was a warrior of Greek mythology.

Red-haired beauty Alice Burdeu stars in Keating’s latest campaign, shot in the intense muted jewel tones of the season by Henryk Lobaczewski. The designer’s AW2013 women is at once feminine and startlingly strong, dressing herself in sharply conceived tailoring that enhances the female form. There is no softness here— it is a very contemporary brand of power dressing that references 40s silhouettes while still remaining quintessentially modern. Despite this particular breed of toughness, Keating has injected sensuality in the form of luxurious fabrications. Heavy wool, duchess silk and leathers all intermingle to create an incredibly tactile range.

While Androdameia features modest proportions, its sculptural forms are indicative of a woman very much in charge and aware of her own allure. In Keating’s words, “It’s a combination of the mark of modern military power and the ancient tribal civilizations, in particular the Amazons, who used war paint to show a warriors power.”

Lovage Magazine editor, Laura Bray Said:

“Last week we had the pleasure of going backstage at the look book shoot for Phoenix Keating, now we are super proud to present the final campaign images. We’ve had a bit of a soft spot for young Mr Keating after his runway show early this year, staged in an eerie church in Sydney’s CBD the collection was quite simply stunning. For A/W he’s stuck to his signature tailoring but has opted for a much more sombre palette, while militaristic undertones and a favouring for matching two piece ensembles subtly weave in hints of 1950′s styles. The collection entitled ‘Androdameia’ takes cues from Amazon tribes to create a modern day power woman. Gold, blood-like spatters on oversized clutches all subtly allude to the underlying theme while thicker, less sympathetic materials channel Keating’s signature structure.

The campaign is shot to beautifully enhance the story behind the collection, Alice Burdeu looks freakishly tall and waif like in the restrictive shapes. Dramatic shadows have us reminiscing of classic Alfred Hitchcock and all weave a story of a powerful young woman stalking her next prey.

At the tender age of 21, Keating is carving out a solid name for himself in the industry and we can’t wait to see where the ‘Phoenix Keating’ girl will go next.”

Style Bungalow fashion writer, Oliva Yacoub wrote:

“At the ripe age of 21 Sydney-based designer, Phoenix Keating, debuts his latest Autumn/Winter 2013 collection titled Androdameia. The name originates from Greek mythology after an Amazon warrior referred to as ‘the subduer of men.’ This female empowerment message oozes from each piece, particularly through the strong colours with bold hints of gold here and there.

I had the pleasure of taking a sneak peak at the collection during the lookbook shoot. Upon entering the studio I was greeted with unbelievably open arms by Phoenix and his crew. In the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of the beautiful platinum blonde model wearing dark eye make up and smeared red lipstick, wearing a transparent cape and long black skirt. If this doesn’t scream amazon warrior I don’t know what does!

Below are some campaign images of the AW 2013 collection filled with tailored pieces, gold trim and dark shades.

“Mirroring its inspiration, ‘Androdameia,’ is designed for the inspired woman, who is fearless in her pursuit of style; bold without being brazen and poised in her own existence.” This collection is every strong and independent woman’s dream.

The Androdameia campaign stars Alice Burdeu and Elize Humble from Priscilla’s with photography by Henrik Lobaczewski.”

Freelance stylist Natalie Shehata dubbed Phoenix Keating, “one of her favourite Australian labels”:

“Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of attending the runway show of young Australian designer – Phoenix Keating. Since viewing his ‘DE-SEX’ SS 12/13 Collection I’ve been captivated by his avant-garde, directional, bold vision & designs – a refreshing and inspirational addition to the Australian Fashion Industry.

Having styled pieces myself from the ‘DE-SEX’ collection for digital Magazine FMC – I’ve been eagerly anticipating the upcoming AW 13 collection.

Last week I had a ‘Behind the Scenes’ sneak preview – courtesy of Bleach PR- of the upcoming AW look-book shoot. The collection titled, ‘Androdameia’ makes reference to a Greek Mythological Amazon – the name translates to, “subduer of men”. This translation encapsulates the essence of Phoenix Keatings’ collection perfectly – signified by provocative tailoring and cutting edge design. It’s undeniably noticeable that the designer has a true appreciation for art, and how this relates to design and fashion. The Phoenix Keating woman can be described as daring, confident and creative in her own right.

Phoenix Keating is by far, one of my favourite Australian designers – I have a true admiration for this designer, who has such strong conviction and uniqueness in his design aesthetic.

The AW 13 collection ‘Androdameia’ – like the ‘DE-SEX’ collection- continues to push boundaries in the fashion world – definitely one to watch out for!!”

We would like to say a big thank you to all the media who have responded and supported Phoenix Keating’s latest collection.

The lookbook will be released shortly, unveiling the entire collection, so stay tuned.
